Bouchou (Knife)

Description: Contrary to what the name might imply, Bouchou is actually a rather big "knife". Bouchou is a large, foldable, cleave-like sword. The handle is roughly twelve inches long, with the blade itself being around three and a half feet in length, and nearly a foot and a half across (from blade edge to backside). The thick material used in fordging the weapon's blade makes the weapon considerably heavy, nearly one hundred and fifty pounds in total. This is a very common weapon used in the arts of Ju Kenshi, and available to all who seek that path.

Bokuto

Description: Also common referred to as "bokken," this weapon is a sword made of wood whose primary purpose is for training. It is usually shaped to look like a katana, but can also be shaped like other swords, such as the wakizashi and tanto. Although normally very basic, they also come in more ornamental designs, boasting elaborate carvings and jewels.

Blade strength is achieved by welding together strips, in which case the sword had a channel down the center, or by fashioning a single piece of high-carbon steel, rhomboidal in cross-section. The guard, small, barely shoots out on the sides.

Description: A shotel is a curved sword. It looks very much like a scimitar. The curve on the shotel's blade varies from a curve similar to the shamshir, to almost a half circle. The blade is flat and double-edged with a diamond cross-section. The blade is about 40 inches in total length and the hilt is a simple wooden piece with no guard. The shotel is carried in a close fitting leather scabbard.

Description: The jian is a double-edged straight sword, with one-handed versions having blades varying from 45 to 80 centimeters (17.7 to 31.5 inches) in length. There are also larger two-handed versions used for training by many styles of Kenjutsu.
